plaster cove repair and painting

Plaster cove repair and paintingThis job included re-fastening 7/8″ plaster at the cove and painting the ceiling and walls to match the existing color.  As plaster contractors, repairing the plaster generally equates to 50%  of the total job. Lakeshore Plaster understands this and knows it’s important to have not only good plasterers but experienced painters as well. After repairing the plaster, using the right products to prime and paint the new surfaces are critical. Using the wrong products or a misunderstanding of proper cure times for the new plaster can cause a premature breakdown of the finished work. Each job requires proper product usage, all with various dry times, requiring  the knowledge of knowing what to use and when. Contrary to popular belief, premixed drywall products and common fillers are not recommended when repairing plaster. When choosing a plaster contractor it can be a tough choice between price and quality. Plaster is an art and skill that can only be perfected over time. Unlike drywall, which involves mostly 90 degree and obtuse angel situations, plaster can be formed and shaped into many ways including radius’, elegant wall and ceiling textures, and ornate plaster crown moldings and cornices. Should you find yourself with damage concerning any of the above, reverse pattern duplication is the ultimate process for creating and blending old fashion wall and ceiling textures as well as decorative crowns and cornices. Several steps are required to achieve accuracy when duplicating these crowns and cornices including a well thought out method to insure the blending of the new and old plaster work and once painted will showcase the finished product.

Where flat plaster surfaces are in need of repair, resurfacing the entire wall, walls, and or ceiling are likely to be less costly then drywall lamination, secondly not having the additional task and cost of resetting electrical and light fixture boxes.

Sometimes plaster contractors refer to resurfacing walls or ceilings as skim coating. With proper preparation such things as hair line plaster cracks, plaster pillows, or smoothing out an existing wall or ceiling textures are repairable using a scratch coat and several coats of finish plaster. When complete the product will be comparable to a new plaster surface, and when painted will be virtually seamless.
